Pattern recognition algorithm reveals how birds evolve individual egg pattern signatures

Mary Caswell Stoddard, Rebecca M. Kilner, Christopher Town · 2014

Nature Communications

A study using a pattern recognition algorithm to show how birds evolve individual egg pattern signatures. The companion cites it for hosts facing the best cuckoo mimics, which evolve signatures on their own eggs that authenticate rather than detect. It supports the expectation that under teleological saturation (C2) investment shifts from detection to authentication.
