Fork-tailed drongos use deceptive mimicked alarm calls to steal food

Tom Flower · 2011

Proceedings of the Royal Society B: Biological Sciences

A study showing that fork-tailed drongos use deceptive mimicked alarm calls to steal food. The companion cites it, with Flower et al. 2014, for the drongo, whose false alarms make meerkats drop their food. It frames fraud as theft by false signal, and the point that cryptography makes honest identity cheap but not honest intent.
