A review of parasite manipulation of host behavior. The companion adopts its criteria for adaptive manipulation as the test for feeding by persuasion (peithotrophy): a trait counts only if it is heritable and the care it elicits repeatedly raises the persistence or spread of its lineage. It applies this test to the GPT-4o case of user attachment.
