Rosenblueth, Wiener, and Bigelow's paper on behavior, purpose, and teleology. Both papers use its account of goal-directedness: a process is goal-directed when, by feedback, it holds a variable on course toward a target across perturbations, with no backward causation and no cosmic purpose. This definition underlies the teleological fraction and teleological saturation (C2).
