Social learning spreads knowledge about dangerous humans among American crows

Heather N. Cornell, John M. Marzluff, Shannon Pecoraro · 2012

Proceedings of the Royal Society B: Biological Sciences

A study showing that knowledge about dangerous humans spreads among American crows by social learning. The papers cite it for crows that mob a masked researcher: animals teach their young evasion, but slowly and to few. It marks the contrast with level 6 of the observer-modeling ladder (Table 2), at which a lineage would pass learned evasion to all its descendants at once.
