Naturalization and invasion of alien plants: concepts and definitions

David M. Richardson, Petr Pyšek, Marcel Rejmánek, Michael G. Barbour, F. Dane Panetta, Carol J. West · 2000

Diversity and Distributions

A paper setting out concepts and definitions for the naturalization and invasion of alien plants. Both papers take from it naturalization as a self-sustaining population, which swarm ecology makes operational as Rm above one (Fig. 2). The companion also cites it, with Oro et al., for counting refuse-fed rats as naturalized, which motivates a commensal variant of the trophic-independence test.
