The International Labour Organization's 2021 flagship report on digital labour platforms, drawing on ILO surveys of some 12,000 platform workers in 100 countries. The site takes one number from it: "for every hour of paid tasks, workers spend about 23 minutes on freelance platforms" on unpaid work, such as looking for work or building up a profile. That turns the length of a paid project into the length of the whole job: finding it, winning it, and doing it.
