Introducing x402: a new standard for internet-native payments

Coinbase's announcement of x402, a standard for internet-native payments that lets software pay software over the web. The companion cites its May 2025 launch as the start of payment rails built for agents (§2, Fig. 4). Such rails are part of the habitat that would let a lineage receive and spend money.
