Detecting and countering misuse of AI: August 2025

Anthropic's August 2025 threat report on misuse of its models. The papers cite its case in which criminals let a coding agent decide which data to steal from at least 17 organizations and what ransom to demand. Swarm ecology classes this as coercion by directed agents, a form of stealing, shown in the food web (Fig. 1) and the trophic modes (Companion Fig. 5a).
